AAAA is a domain name record, which is basically the IPv6 address of the web server in which the domain is hosted. The IPv6 system was introduced to replace the existing IPv4 system where each IP address comprises of 4 sets of decimal digits between 1 to 255 e.g. 5.168.208.143. In comparison, an IPv6 address includes 8 sets of four hexadecimal digits - ranging from 0 to 9 and from A to F. The cause of this transformation is the substantially smaller amount of unique IPs which the current system supports and also the fast increase of products which are connected to the Internet. A good example of an IPv6 address would be 2101:1f34:32e2:2415:1365:4f2b:2553:1345. If you want to direct a domain address to a machine which uses such an address, you will need to set up an AAAA record for it, and not the widespread A record, which is an IPv4 address. The 2 records have the same exact function, but different notations are used, in order to distinguish the two types of addresses.
AAAA Records in Hosting
If you would like to set up a new AAAA record for any domain or subdomain hosted inside your hosting account, it is not going to take you more than a couple of easy steps to do that. Our in-house built Hepsia CP is rather intuitive to use and it'll enable you to set up or change every single record easily. When you log in and go to the DNS Records section, where you can find all present records for your domains and subdomains, you'll just have to click the "New" button, select AAAA from a small drop-down menu within the pop-up that'll show up, type or paste the necessary IPv6 address and save the change - it is as simple as that. The new record will be 100% functioning within no more than one hour and the hostname that you have created it for will start opening whatever content you have with the other provider. If needed, you are also going to be able to edit the TTL (Time To Live) value, which shows the time in seconds that the new record will be live after you eventually change it to something different or you simply delete it.
AAAA Records in Semi-dedicated Servers
Creating a new AAAA record is incredibly easy with our user-friendly Hepsia hosting Control Panel, so if you host a domain within a semi-dedicated server account from our company and you want such a record either for it or for a subdomain that you have set up under it, you're going to be able to create it in just a few rather simple steps and with no hassle. Hepsia includes a section dedicated to the DNS records of your domains where you can find all current records or set up new ones with several clicks. All it takes to accomplish this is to select the domain/subdomain that you would like to modify, choose AAAA for the type from a drop-down menu and type the actual record i.e. the IPv6 address which the other provider has given you. Within an hour after you save the change, the newly created record will propagate worldwide and your domain address will start forwarding to the third-party web server. If they require it, you may also edit the TTL value, which shows the time this record shall be working with its present value before a new one kicks in if you make any adjustments in the future.
