If you see a major increase in the traffic to your site and in case after you examine the visitor statistics it turns out that it comes from places around the world or from other servers, your website is more than likely being attacked by an automatic bot. Such pieces of software go through random websites looking to log in to their admin area using a brute-force attack or to leave spam comments under every article where this kind of an option is available. Unfortunately, that is something rather common nowadays, but if you know the IP addresses from which the attacks come, you could block them, so the bots shall not be able to access your site in any way. Of course, you are able to block IPs even if you allow only people from certain countries to access your website.
IP Blocking in Hosting
If you have a hosting account with us and you wish to block one or a number of IP addresses, you could use the IP Blocking tool, which is incorporated into our in-house built Hepsia CP. Through a rather simple interface, you can restrict any IP from accessing your content even if you have not had a web hosting account before. All it requires to complete this is to log inside to your Control Panel, to go to the IP Blocking section, to choose a certain domain or subdomain from a drop-down menu and then to type in the IP address. You won't have to do anything difficult if you wish to block a whole network - you'll simply have to omit the last octet, so entering 1.1.1. with a blank space after the last dot shall block the entire range from 1.1.1.1 to 1.1.1.255. All blocked IPs shall be listed in the very same section, so you will be able to remove any of them from the blacklist with only a mouse click.
IP Blocking in Semi-dedicated Servers
If you host your Internet sites inside a semi-dedicated server account with us and you wish to block one or a number of IP addresses eventually, you may benefit from the easy-to-use blocking tool, which we have included in our in-house built Hepsia hosting CP. With only a few clicks, you will be able to block individual IPs or entire ranges, if needed. All you will need to do is select any one of your domains or subdomains from a drop-down menu, decide if the blocking needs to be valid for the root folder or for a subfolder that's part of the website, and then type in the IP address you want to block. For an IP range, you only need to omit the last octet or the last two octets of the address depending on the size of the network you want to block. All of the addresses that you've restricted will be listed inside the same exact section and if you would like to whitelist any one of them, you'll be able to do it with a click at any time.
